The Bactrian Camel Festival is organized by the local camel breeders in the Gobi desert every year. This extraordinary festival gives a great chance for travellers to see two-humped Bactrian camels and experience camel breeder’s custom and culture. This fun and exciting event includes camel racing, traditional music and dancing and costume competitions.
During the festival we can ride the camels and explore nomadic Mongolian’s life style, culture and custom. Also we will visit most beautiful areas of Mongolian Gobi Desert.
Day 1. March 05. Fly to South Gobi and Camel Festival
In the early morning we will take a flight to Dalanzadgad of the South Gobi province. After one and a half hours, we will land in South Gobi and meet our driver. He will take us to a tourist camp. After 2 hours, we will reach a tourist camp. Check in to our gers and enjoy Mongolian lunch at the camp. The festival is held in Bulgan soum (small village) and 30 minutes driving distance from our camp. Competitions of the day include “best looking couple with Mongolian traditional costume on camelback”, most adorable male and female camels and a camel polo and more…. Also there’s an exhibition of paintings by local children. The exhibition is called “Camel– My Friend”. In the late afternoon, we will enjoy a performance by “Altai Snowcock” youth club. Overnight in tourist camp.
Day 2. March 6. Camel Racing
Today we will join again locals and attend the camel racing. The first three winners of camels are awarded with gold, silver and bronze medals. In the afternoon, we will see Camel Relay competition, including catching camels, taming, and training and loading a camel with an ger.
We will an opportunity to ride camel and take unforgettable loads of pictures. Overnight in tourist camp
Day 3. March 7. Explore dinosaur’s land
Today, we will drive to the world famous Flaming Cliffs- Bayan Zag. Here we can explore the trail of American paleontologist, Roy Chapman Andrews who discovered dinosaur fossils here, including a nest of fossilized dinosaur’s eggs in 1920. Dinosaurs were roaming here 60 million years ago.
Day 4. March 8.Visit Eagle valley
In the morning, we will take a trip to Yol Am – a wonderfully picturesque place with ice even in summer, and surrounded by sheer rocky walls, forming incredible canyons. We will visit Gobi museum and see Gobi desert animals and plants. These areas are situated in the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park (Gobi Three Beauties) end of the Altai Mountains. Overnight in tourist camp.
Day 5. March 9. Fly back to Ulaanbaatar
Up early we will drive back to South Gobi and take a return flight to Ulaanbaatar
